I Have a Hot Sauce Addiction

Hot Sauce Addict. That's right. I have a hot sauce addiction and I can't hide this fact any longer.

If you don't like hot sauce--stop reading this now and we won't waste each other's time. You see, you won't be able understand or appreciate my view going forward. No offense or hard feelings, it's just the way it is.

OK, YOU, on the other hand, like hot sauce and can keep reading.

Having a hot sauce addiction isn't something you can acquire or something that someone can teach you. It's something you are born with--almost if there was a hot sauce gene engraved somewhere in my genetic code. It's that special.

I find it amazing that when I think about hot peppers like habaneros, hot sauces, or salsas, I start to drool like a dog. Seriously, the inside of my mouth sweats just thinking or talking about hot sauce. I know it may sound strange or like I have a condition of some sort, but that's what happens. Maybe my hot sauce addiction is a condition or disease for that matter.

Just this afternoon, I went home for lunch and then went out to my hot pepper garden in my backyard to see how my peppers were doing. I gotta tell you, the closer I got to the pepper plants, the more I started to get excited about harvesting the crop and eating peppers on the spot. I started thinking about the possibilites of these hot peppers; I could make hot sauce, salsa, pickled peppers, garnishes for pasta and pizza. I could put hot sauce on eggs, sandwiches, and crackers.

Even as I paused before typing this very sentence, I got hot sauce tunnel vision and then my mouth watered with the anticipation of my next hot pepper consumption.

Hold on a minute. Let's re-group and re-focus. This post is not going anywhere and I am carrying on like a babbling idiot.

I have a hot sauce addiction and wanted to get that off my chest. I wanted to come clean and say what had to be said about my liking, appreciating, admiring, craving, and obsessing the hot stuff.

Dude, you mentioned "tunnel vision"!!!
Been there, once when grandma cooked wild boar, and served it with an assortment of vegetables, roasted habaneros included, taco fashion. That was the best (or worst) feeling in the world!!
I have and addiction too.

I absolutely love hot sauce or anything spicy. I put it on everything including chips. When I even think about eating it I already start sweating. Why can I not stop myself from eating spicy foods when I know I will have stomach pains later. It is my crack addiction.

I am there.
There is nothing better on pizza than a layer of habanero hot sauce.
And it is the best bargain in foods. buy it at the mexican market for about a 1$ a bottle.

I know what exactly you going threw. I crave hot sauce and can't stop licking my plate fingers and everything. Im the biggest addic too. I caught myself drinking hotsauce packets from KFC. LOL. I crave it so much I make a pan of hotsauce just to eat it. I wish they had hotsauce gum so I won't tear up my stomach.

Wow, same here but mine extends further than most...

I love super spicy thai, indian, vietnamese, korean food in addition to all my American favorites. My favorite regular hot sauce is cholula with its wonderful, non-vinigry base...yes, vinegar based hot sauce is gross. Other favorites:Uncle Dougie's Bang Zoom, Green Ghost Chili Sauce, convict hot sauce, sriracha, tapatio, even tabasco when I'm slathering it on sunny side up eggs. Hot sauce is the shit! I even got a friend so addicted he puts it on his pancakes for breakfast! lol

Totally relating to all of these posts. When I was about 9 years old I had lunch at a friends house and we ate tomato soup. She suggested that I put a lot of pepper(black) in it and it will be good. I did and I was hooked. When I got a little older I started eating tabasco sauce in and on everything. I then discovered fresh hot peppers. Today its a combo of all the above. I love all kinds of hot sauce. I really like the original Mayan Recipe El Yucateco Habanero sauce made in mexico! Damn its good!!!

I feel the exact same way. Just reading your post about you thinking about them made my mouth water. Vinegar does the same thing to me. I like to drink it. You're awesome! :)

Ive been addicting every since my dad would use it on his food to keep me from eating his ( so i guess thats where i got it from! ). He started buying gallons of it by the time I was 16 and my food would literally be in a lake of hot sauce, and he would stand across the room going "ahh thats burning my nose!" hahahaha. I love tabasco, franks, habanero. I literally will starve before eating anything WITHOUT hot sauce on it. If I go to the grocery store with only 5 bucks, I'm getting the hot sauce, not the food. Cause theres always cans of chilli, beans, etc. around the house that you can put ANY hot sauce on!

I have a confession to make - I too am a hot sauce addict. My weapons of choice are Frank's RedHot and Srirarcha.

The greatest meal of all time is this buffalo chicken pizza made by Frank's Pizza and Chicken in Pittsburgh. They broast their chicken and absolutely cover it in Frank's RedHot. Then they put SO MUCH chicken on a pizza crust and cover it with cheese and bake it perfectly and give you the greatest ranch dressing ever to dip it in. That was the start of my hot sauce addiction. It eat this pizza at least once a week.

I have bottles of Sriracha and Frank's RedHot in my cube at work. I eat soup with sriracha in it every other day for breakfast. Some Thursdays at work they serve cajun chicken salads, and I look forward to it when I see the menu on Monday. I look at it as an excuse to put some blue cheese dressing on it and just absolutely dump Frank's RedHot on to it. That plus the cajun spice is unreal.

I put Sriracha on my crackers for snacks. I haven't gotten to the point where I'm drinking it straight out of the bottle but I'm getting close. Yes, I know I have a massive problem and I can't stop, but I don't care.

I forgot to mention that anytime I get Chinese food, I'm always EXTREMELY disappointed when they don't have Sriracha. The first time I had Sriracha it murdered my stomach and made me feel like I was going to puke. I didn't care though and just kept eating it until eventually my stomach got used to it. I guess I just enjoy the abuse.

legitimately i am drinking the stuff not even putting it on food anymore i just drink out of the bottle and then die of hotness, eat something to cool off my taste buds and then drink more.. its a vicious cycle. sometimes i drink so much my hands start shaking hot sauce is a beautiful drug

i am a hot sauce addict. Always had a penchant for spicy foods and vinagarry stuff. My drug of choice is Tobasco sauce. I will actively avoid restaurant that don't have it, always keep a personal size bottle in my car. I once took an unopened bottle into a Panera and it got 'lost' in between my booth and the wall, I had to get the manager to remove the entire booth to recover it. I cant eat eggs without Tobasco! I use this drug on pizza, chili, chicken, fish, burgers, potato products, soups, burritos, chips, sandwiches, etc. I will also 'use' packets from KFC or Taco Bell and make a small incision with my teeth and intake small doses at a time.

This blog made me pull out my 12 oz. bottle of Tobasco I use for home defense and dump it on a can of Kippered Herring, which I then put the hot sauce laced herring on crackers. BREAKFAST SERVED!
My daughter has my same insatiable appetite for the hot and between us, we go through multiple bottles per week.
Recently a study came out linking a correlation between alcoholism and those who have a penchant for spicy foods. This worries me because I feel like I've become an alcoholic and I'm wild about spicy foods.

Yep, have an addiction here, too. Use it on steamed vegetables, smoked salmon, popcorn, puffed rice, and puffed corn cereal (no milk) with Parmesan cheese. Put it on eggs, jerky, in hot lemonade, spread it on rye crisp crackers, and soft corn tortilla shells with honey, honey gives a slight delay in the fire, sweet potato fries, and anywhere the ordinary person would use ketchup, I use hot sauce instead. Just moved up to ghost pepper sauce, whooo boy! I had to have Popsicles at the ready to extinguish myself. Started making homemade Popsicles to keep the cost down. Recently, I have had to suspend the ghost pepper regiment as I have a large real blister on my tongue, on my front lower gum, and inside of my cheek. In the past I've had burning pain from the "other" end, but I had my hemorrhoids banded, and now I don't have that problem anymore. (banding is excruciatingly painful, so be advised)

I literally 'drink' Crystal hot sauce. The combination of vinegar and spice is my delight. It's a life long habit. I imagine if I drink enough water I can dilute it in my stomach and avoid issues...but I think my stomach does a pretty good job of digesting Crystal hot sauce.

The absolute best!

Hi I am a hot sauce addict, I have finally come to the conclusion and cant take it anymore, I have been using different hot sauces for years now, I am 64 yrs old and I believe its taking its toll, I notice as you get older its harder on your body eating spicy things, but as I got older my addiction got worse and worse to the point it seems I can eat anything without hot sauce, tonight I take a pledge, I have put my bottle of Cyan Sauce and all my 100 packets of Diablos sauce from Taco Bell and tomorrow I taking them over to my daughters house and ask her to take them from me, I have had it , I cant believe I am typing this! Thank you for reading this I hope I can kick this habit .
